The emergence of name "Yugoslavia"

[edit]

Hello @Illegitimate Barrister, I noticed you recently added a fact that the name of the country "was in use as early as 1922 onward". Seton-Watson over at s:1922 Encyclopædia Britannica/Yugoslavia tells us this country was already "more commonly known as Yugoslavia" by the time this article was published. This makes it highly improbable 1922 really is early usage of "Yugoslavia" even in English, while the native name "Jugoslavija" in Yugoslav languages certainly predates creation of Yugoslavia (see Yugoslavism § Defining the South Slavic kingdom). You found a 1922 source, and somebody might find a 1920 source mentioning "Yugoslavia" at some point that we are not yet aware of, but all of this work constitutes original research. Therefore I think it is misleading to imply 1922 is when the name of the country emerged, or anywhere close to it. –Vipz (talk) 03:09, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
